First comes snow, then comes rain, and with each season comes a new checklist.

After the winters that Niagara endures, we are always thrilled to welcome any sign of spring. And this year will be no exception!  While we wait for the grass to turn green and the flowers to bloom, we begin to enjoy the warmer weather and that beautiful sunshine that we have desperately missed.  But with every changing season there is also a new maintenance regiment that we must begin. 

Since spring is a sign of new beginnings in nature, it seems appropriate that we should get a fresh start as well.  Spring is a great time to refresh all of our spaces, purge unneeded clothing, declutter closets and shelves and even do some redecorating or begin that much needed renovation. 

As you begin your spring cleaning, be sure to consider what items you have stored away that you no longer use or fit into.  If you have belongings that you no longer need, don’t just throw them out -- recycle them.  There are several charitable organizations in Niagara that will gladly help re-purpose or redistribute your excess to someone in need. You may be emptying a closet, but you could be filling someone’s heart through your generosity.  

Now, don’t just stop at cleaning and purging your closets; there are many other maintenance chores that need to be completed as we enter the spring season.  Since we are usually anxious to get out of the house and begin to enjoy the warmer weather, we can look at this time as an opportunity to check our homes for any exterior signs of weathering and to being our landscape cleanup.  If you have trouble focusing on this type of maintenance – plan an outdoor get together therefore giving yourself a deadline to get the house in order.   Sometimes we just need a little push…and who doesn’t like a party!

While common maintenance lists such as the ones we’ve put together for you here are a good place to start, homes are unique in many ways, and it is vital that you take a good look at your interior and exterior elements to ensure that you address any trouble spots you may have. By doing a thorough inspection, you can ensure that a simple repair doesn’t become a replacement issue if left too long.
